NEW IN 1.2

Garments, sculpting and Grease Pencil.
A whole kit to Unreal in one call.

Everything in 1.2 →
01

Game pieces, ready to send

Modular kit pieces, rocks, plants and LOD chains, and a game-ready pass that sets the pivot, lightmap UVs, name and collision hulls. mif_send_to_unreal sends a whole kit to Unreal in one call, each piece read back.

02

Garments

A garment lofted round a body through rings at its bones, with sleeves, hoods, collars and bands, its ease measured, and pushed clear of the body across poses.

03

Sculpting

Brush strokes run headless along a path: Draw, Clay, Grab, Boundary, Cloth and more, with face sets and Multires levels.

04

Grease Pencil

Drawing, layers and groups, keyframes, effects and modifiers on both of Blender’s Grease Pencil generations, and strokes exported as SVG or PDF.

05

Rigs and motion

Rigify rigs generated and regenerated, control rigs over a deform skeleton, motion paths, and keys cleaned, thinned and blended.

06

Any port, no restart

Each add-on records where it listens, so the MCP server finds a Blender on another port and switches to it.

HOW IT WORKS

One socket.
Blender’s own main thread.

The add-on does the work inside Blender, where it is safe to touch the scene, and answers with what the scene holds.

  1. 01 / YOUR AGENTAsks for a change

Through the MifBridge MCP server’s bl_* tools, or any client that speaks the add-on’s protocol.

  2. 02 / THE SOCKETLoopback only

One JSON request per frame, with a token compared in constant time. There is no bind-address setting.

    127.0.0.1:8792
  3. 03 / THE MAIN THREADDoes the work

Each job is handed to Blender’s main thread before it touches bpy, even in a headless Blender.

  4. 04 / THE SCENEAnswers back

The reply carries what the scene holds, and every call that can change it leaves an undo step.

A misspelled key is an error. An unknown operation answers with the ones you most likely meant.

COVERAGE

36 kinds of scene work.

BUILT FOR REAL SCENES

Careful with your scene.

The MifBlender guide →
01

An undo step for every change

Blender has no transactions, so the add-on makes its own: one after every call that can change the scene, refused or not, and none after a read.

02

Strict parameters

An unknown parameter is an error, so a misspelled key tells you instead of quietly doing nothing.

03

One Blender per port

A second Blender cannot silently take the port. The add-on shows its process id, so you can tell which Blender your edits land in, and bl_status lists every live one.

04

Headless when you need it

Start it in a background Blender with MifBlender.serve_forever(), for renders and batch work without a window.

05

Loopback and a token

It binds 127.0.0.1 only. An empty token turns authentication off, and the add-on says so loudly.

06

An escape hatch you can close

run_python runs arbitrary Python and is allowed by default as the documented escape hatch. One preference, Allow run_python, turns it off.

Install in a minute
  • Download MifBlender-1.2.0.zip
  • In Blender: Edit › Preferences › Add-ons › Install…, choose the zip, and enable “MifBlender (MifBridge backend)”
  • Set its Token to the same secret the MCP server uses
  • Find it in the 3D view’s sidebar (N) under MifBridge

Pairs with MifBridge

To drive it from an AI agent, the MifBridge MCP server exposes every operation as a bl_* tool. The protocol is documented too, so your own client can talk to it directly.

QUESTIONS

Before you install.

Is it really free?

Yes. MifBlender carries the MIT license: use it, change it and share it. It is a separate, free download, and it is included in MifBridge bought on this site.

Do I need MifBridge?

Not to run it. To drive it from an AI agent through MCP, the MCP server that ships with MifBridge turns its operations into bl_* tools. Its socket protocol is documented in the guide, so any client can speak it.

Which versions of Blender?

Its declared minimum is Blender 4.4, and it is verified on 3.6.23, 4.2.17 LTS, 4.4.0, 5.0.1, 5.2.1 LTS.

Can it run without Blender’s window?

Yes. It does not start itself under blender -b, because a background Blender has no event loop, so you start it explicitly with serve_forever().

Is it safe to leave running?

It listens on your own machine only, and every request needs your token. The one powerful operation, run_python, can be switched off in the add-on’s preferences.

METHOD AND CANDOR

Every build listed has a test run behind it.

The counts come from the add-on’s own registry, and the builds from the newest run of every Blender suite. See how each was established, and which few operations are deliberately left out of the runs.
